ELVIS PRESLEY, OWNED
AND WORN ROLEX WATCH
A mid-1950 Rolex Oyster Perpetual that's been personally owned by Elvis Presley. It was later given by Elvis to Gary Pepper. Pepper was a friend of Elvis, and was the president of The Elvis Presley Fan Club in Memphis. The watch was kept in the possession of Pepper's family after he passed away in 1980. There are multiple images of Elvis Presley from that time period wearing the watch. Also, there is an image of Gary Pepper wearing the watch (which confirms that it's the same watch mentioned in the court documents and also the one that was given by Elvis).
This is one of the most essential Elvis-owned items in the watches and jewelry category ever to come to auction. In addition, it's one of the most well-documented Elvis items there is, with a total of four independent letters of authenticity, a letter of provenance, and court documents.
The watch has previously been serviced, and the strap and the back case have been changed. However, both parts are still original Rolex parts. One of the photos I have attached shows Elvis wearing a Rolex, where you can see the watch's leather strap, and you clearly see a Rolex clasp, indicating that he did indeed own a Rolex on a leather strap during that period. It's highly likely that it's this very watch, but before the strap was changed. The watch is in very good vintage condition, and it's fully working.
Condition: Fine condition, scratches to the case, the strap is slightly damaged. The movement is in working condition.
Provenance: The watch was mentioned in court documents: 686 F.3d 658 (2012) United States Court of Appeals For the Eighth Circuit No. 11-2764 "a Rolex Oyster watch given to Gary by Elvis". Accompanied by a Letters of Provenance by James Tate (Gary Pepper's cousin). The watch also comes with multiple Letter of Authenticity from The Elvis Presley Museum (Jimmy Velvet and Daniel Johnson), Jeffrey Marren (former Director of Graceland Auctions), and Jon Daly (dealer of Elvis memorabilia). Letter of Authenticity from Alexander Bitar History.
