BOBBY WHITLOCK, GEORGE HARRISON & ERIC CLAPTON PLAYED MARTIN GUITAR
A Martin D-35 acoustic guitar, serial number 263874, that's been personally owned and played by Bobby Whitlock. Gifted on March 18, 1970, by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman to Whitlock on his 22nd birthday. The guitar was played by George Harrison during the recording of the "All Things Must Pass" album (May 26 - October 28, 1970). The guitar was later played by Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, and Dave Mason during the recording of the "Layla" album (August 26 - September 12, 1970).
The guitar was later seen on the cover of Whitlock's 1972 self-titled album and featured on the back cover of his Raw Velvet LP (also released in 1972). And it's not to be confused with another Martin D-35 Bobby still owns. That guitar has a lighter color and does not have white edges on the fingerboard (while the guitar in this lot has white edges).
Comes with original, 1970 still-sealed vinyl LP copies of "Layla" and "All Things Must Pass".
This is arguably one of the finest guitars in rock history. Not only has it been featured on two of the greatest albums of all time, but it has also been played by all-time greats such as George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Duane Allman. It really doesn't get much better than this.
Condition: The guitar is in good condition with signs of use. The LP albums are in mint condition.
Provenance:The guitar was sold in 1990 by Bobby Whitlock to a private collector and remained in that collection for over 30 years.
