ADOLF HITLER, HANDWRITTEN & SIGNED 1933 LOVE LETTER

A historically remarkable, shockingly, and important handwritten and signed letter by Adolf Hitler in 1933. The letter was written to Winifred Wagner on January 8, 1933, just three weeks before Hitler became the Chancellor of Germany. Winifred was married to Siegfried Wagner, the son of the internationally acclaimed composer Richard Wagner. Richard Wagner was Hitler's idol and someone he often referred to.

The letter in full (translated from German to English): "My honored and dear Wini –– For weeks and weeks I am again involved in a difficult and hard work – troubles and worries. I do not know whether you are able to understand me altogether, but I beg you to forgive me, at least to express my thanks only today for a present with which you gave me the most beautiful pleasure. For two years, the Christmas season is only a season of sorrow for me," [note: Hitler's niece had died about two years previous on Christmas Day] "and I could not overcome myself to be like the years before, so I must beg you very heartily to accept my thanks this way and belatedly. I believe there will be a time when I may be able to prove my grateful attachments to you not only with words but with deeds." [note: When Hitler got to power, he saw to it that Wini Wagner was given a yearly allowance of 100,000 Richs mark.] "Unfortunately, there will always be new mountains to conquer. I can't understand today why, in my youth, Richard Wagner and his fate meant more to me than so many other great Germans. It may be the same suffering of the eternal fight against hatred, envy, and ignorance – those are the same sorrow, and only for that reason I dare, my dear Wini, to write like that to you and express my wishes on January 8 while others do on January 1. You will be good enough to me, and I accept it today also that I wish you and the children for this year everything good out of the bottom of my heart, everything anybody can wish you. May the summer be a success for you." [note: Hitler refers to the Bayreuth Festival in memory of Richard Wagner as a successful event] "May fate permit me to be able to contribute somewhat. Once again, thanks and loyal greetings – good luck and blessings. –– Yours, Adolf".

Note: The three noted sentences were not written by Hitler but were only added for context.

This is clearly a very private and personal letter as Hitler's referring Winifred with her nickname "Wini", and that he's only signing with his first name. It's truly remarkable that Hitler begs for Winifred's forgiveness. The other great highlight is his reference to Richard Wagner's "suffering of the eternal fight against hatred, envy, and ignorance," which is partly what Hitler often talked about to bring the German people on his side.

Although it's not confirmed by all, many experts say that Hitler and Winifred were in a relationship prior to his involvement with Eva Braun. Hitler first met Winifred in 1923, and they grew very close immediately. When Hitler was jailed for his part in the Beer Hall Putsch, Winifred sent him food parcels and stationery on which part of Hitler's political manifesto "Mein Kampf" was written. In 1933, the year of this letter, it was rumored that Hitler and Winifred were to get married. Notably, Hitler and Winifred corresponded for nearly two decades. Scholars have not been allowed to see the letters, as they have been kept locked away by one of Winifred Wagner's grandchildren. She insists that the letters should not be released.

This is truly one of the most interesting letters from Adolf Hitler in private hands. The fact that it's handwritten in full by Hitler is very remarkable as the vast majority of Hitler's letters and documents are only signed by him. The most remarkable aspect is the content of the letter. The content goes against the persona of Hitler as being a fearful and horrible dictator. This letter shows a side that we've never seen before, and the fact that Hitler – the most evil man in history – begs for someone's forgiveness is absolutely sensational.
